Terms and Conditions
I charge £25.00 per hour for family history research. The first hour of research is free, so I can review any
information supplied about the family and assess whether the research aim is achievable. I can discuss the outcome over the phone or by email.
A budget or set number of hours are to be agreed in advance before research commences whereupon a 25% deposit is payable. For new research I recommend a minimum of 10 hours because research may be complex and dependent on many factors. The remainder of the payment should be made once the report is completed.
Further hours of research can be purchased at later dates, so that costs are spread over a longer period if there are budget constraints.
Payment should be made by bank transfer.
Travel and cost of any documents are charged for in addition at the cost price.
Documents sometimes have to be ordered to verify information. They will not be ordered without customer agreement. These typically include:
-
Birth, marriage and death certificates from the General Records Office which are £12.50 for a paper copy. Some can be ordered electronically by pdf for £8 and Digital Images of births from 1837 to 1923 and deaths from 1837 to 1957 are £3.00.
-
Wills at £1.50.
-
Other documents from archives.
There is an extra £5 charge for printing and sending by post.
All work is carried out in confidentially.
Please note that it is possible that research may not yield results because records may be lost or cannot be found. In this instance I will contact you to discuss and review options.
I am registered with the Information Commissioner's Office, (Ref No. ZB635400) which enforces the protection of data. Therefore, your data will not be used for marketing or for emails.
